Actor and comedian Robin Williams has died Monday morning at the age of 63. The actor was found unconscious at his residence and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death of the actor was reported via a statement from his publicist, which stated: "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

It is not confirmed whether Williams' death was a suicide.

The Oscar-winning actress had starred in a number of roles throughout his career, including "Mrs Doubtfire" and "Good Will Hunting."

He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor three times, and went on to receive the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Good Will Hunting.

A press release issued by the Marin County Coroner's office points the death to be "suicide due to asphyxia."

Williams is survived by his third wife, graphic designer Susan Schneider, whom he married on October 23, 2011.

She released a statement following her husband's death. "This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions," she told THR.

The actor leaves behind three children; a son, Zachary Pym, whom he had with his first wife Valeri Velardi, and two children, Zelda Rae and Cody Alan, whom he had with his second wife Marsha Garces.

His daughter, Zelda Williams, tweeted a quote by French writer and poet Antoine de Saint-Exupery. "You - you alone will have the stars as no one else has them ... In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night ... You - only you - will have stars that can laugh," she wrote. "I love you. I miss you. I'll try to keep looking up."

Just two weeks ago, Williams posted a photo of himself and his daughter as a child (pictured above) with the caption: "#tbt and Happy Birthday to Ms. Zelda Rae Williams! Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl. Happy Birthday @zeldawilliams Love you!"

Williams was a member of the Episcopal Church.
