'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date: premiere may actually come in late 2016, rather than 2017

It is already expected that the third season for the animated series "Rick and Morty" is scheduled to premiere later this year. However, the late 2016 schedule is actually good news to fans, as the show was reportedly supposed to start in 2017.

Apparently, the show was not supposed to start until next year, based on the hint dropped at the end of second season. According to Inquistr, the after-credit monologue of Mr. Poopybutthole teased that the next season may start in early 2017. Apparently, the character stated that he may not be seen "A year and a half...or longer."

However, Den of Geek reports that season 3 may come out earlier than fans expected. In a public forum, co-creator Dan Harmon was quoted as saying that the team is "targeting around the end of this year" for "Rick and Morty" season 3 to come out.

While a late 2016 announcement remains unconfirmed, fans hope that Harmon and his team can establish early episodes of the third season so that a new "Rick and Morty" show premieres before the year ends. This may be a bit daunting to the team though, since it is revealed that season 3 is supposed to run for 14 episodes. This is much longer than the previous season which contained 10 episodes. The original "Rick and Morty," meanwhile, ran for 11 episodes.

Meanwhile, if the rumor is to be believed, fans will get treated to a new location on the set of "Rick and Morty" season 3. Reportedly, Harmon stated that "It's time to demand that the network allows us to draw the characters going to Hawaii."

Even if "Rick and Morty" season 3 will not be released any time soon, fans still get busy trying to come out with likely events for the upcoming show, including that the time-travelling duo can also cross to other dimensions.
