It is already confirmed that at least two titles in the "Resident Evil" franchise will be coming out soon. However, speculations suggest that focus will be on the upcoming sequel "Resident Evil 7." As such, the remastered "Resident Evil 2 Remake" will be delayed and will be released later.

According to Yibada, publisher Capcom is prioritizing the release of the upcoming sequel, "Resident Evil 7," since it is already expected to come out soon. It is also believed that the sequel will figure prominently in this year's 2016 E3 trade show. Meanwhile, although Capcom has remained non-committal, speculations say that "Resident Evil 7" will roll out next year. Should this happen, another game in the making, "Resident Evil 2 Remake," is supposed to come out after the seventh installment, so fans are looking for beyond 2017 as release date, maybe in 2019 at the earliest.

It is understandable that "Resident Evil 7" will take center stage, since the game is a new, direct sequel in the series and will reportedly follow-up the events in the last "Resident Evil" game.

A remastered "Resident Evil 2" is confirmed by Capcom last year, following a statement by game designer and producer Jun Takeuchi. Apparently, Capcom is already planning to release remake versions of previous games, and settled on "Resident Evil 2."

"Resident Evil 2" was released in 1998. According to Crossmap, Capcom may have chosen the version since the second installment had been widely-acclaimed by fans and observers. Supposedly, the game had been widely received that "Resident Evil 2" is claimed to be the most successful title in the franchise on a single platform.

Meanwhile, it is being said that players may get a sneak peek at how "Resident Evil 2 Remake" is progressing. Another upcoming franchise game, "Umbrella Corps," is a "Resident Evil" spin-off set in Raccoon City, the location of the original "Resident Evil 2" game.
