'Gears of War' news: Remastered footage leaks

Marcus Fenix in 'Gears of War: Judgement'. Epic Games

With the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo fast approaching, one of the most anticipated announcements is about Microsoft's remastered edition of "Gears of War."

Rumors have been circulating about the very first "Gears of War" title, released in 2006. In the latest round of speculations, it seems that a leaked footage of a remastered edition, said to be in development, has made its way online, and gamers can easily see major differences between the new and old versions.

In a report by Forbes, the footage first made its way online through website XboxDVR, but it has already been pulled down. The video spans only 36 seconds, and highlights the main protagonist of the series, Marcus Fenix, as he destroys enemies as a Locust Horde foot soldier.

Based on the supposed footage, it seems that the upcoming "Gears of War" title will be vastly improved over the original one. Even with the same plot and storyline, and even the same style of gameplay, huge differences are noticeable in terms of graphics. Since the new game will be on the Xbox One platform, the title will reportedly showcase the current-gen's power in terms of lighting, textures, and frame rate.

The footage seems to confirm earlier reports that there is indeed a new remasteredversion of "Gears of War" already in the works. Early this year, creative director for Microsoft Kudo Tsunoda said in an interview that current developments for "Minecraft," "Halo," and "Gears of War" are still on-going.

"Gears of War" is a franchise originally developed by Epic Games. Acquired by Microsoft Studios in 2014, the company then handed the franchise off to Black Tusk. There are currently four titles currently available under the series – a trilogy and the "Judgement" spin-off.

Although the footage might confirm the release of a new title, there are no details yet on when the upcoming game will make it to the Xbox One.
