'Quantico' season 2 release date: Alex said to face bigger challenges because of CIA

"Quantico" has already been confirmed to return for season 2 in September. However, details about what the new series season will be all about are still scarce. Speculations suggest that Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) will find herself in bigger events as she joins the Central Intelligence Agency.

The season1 finale saw the team of FBI newbies in jeopardy as it was discovered that a mole is within the academy. However, Alex has been granted a reprieve, since instead of being totally sacked, she is given a choice to join the CIA. This possibly means more intrigue and shadowy events for the character.

Meanwhile, although the next season is still months to go, "Quantico" creator Joshua Safran teases fans that season 2 will feature a more fun story than the first one.

Safran tells Complex, "It will be fun. I think season two will be, even though there will be darkness, there will also, it will weirdly feel a little lighter. Lighter is the wrong word, but we want to spend time with these people as adults in the real world as the most ridiculously hot adults you've ever seen in the real world."

Safran also hints that season 2 will have a "Grey's Anatomy" feel to it, with the episodes exploring more the characters than the events.

The creator adds, "They dealt with life and death situations and they were a little bit more immature when they blew off steam because they needed to... That's what it will be like for our characters as well."

Since the fall opening of the season is already confirmed, the cast and crew are scheduled to start filming this month. New characters are set to make their appearances, and one of them is Russell Tovey as Harry Doyle.

"Quantico" season 2 is set to premiere on Sept. 25, 10 p.m ET on ABC.
