PS4 Neo vs Xbox Scorpio specs comparison: just filling the gap ahead of PS5 and Xbox Two?

Both Sony and Microsoft have already revealed that they have upcoming consoles to release soon. However, although the PS4 Neo and Xbox Scorpio are rumored to have huge improvements over the current-gen consoles, they are still not the direct follow-up to the PS4 and the Xbox One.

While there are no confirmed specs for both consoles, rumors say that both the PS4 Neo and Xbox Scorpio will run on an octa-core CPU, with the Sony console clocking a rumored 2.1 GHz speed. Meanwhile, since both are likely to offer almost the same processor architecture, industry followers say that the advantage will be on who will perform better in terms of GPU and graphics specs. This may be true, given that the two consoles are rumored to feature 4K performance and support for virtual reality content.

According to Tech Insider, it seems that the upcoming Xbox Scorpio will have the advantage of being released later than the PS4 Neo – the Sony console is expected to come out later this year – as it will have more cutting-edge specs. In terms of memory, the new Xbox console will reportedly carry as much as 12 GB of RAM, which is much more than the PS4 Neo's 8-GB RAM capacity. In addition, though both is expected to feature almost similar chipset architecture, the Microsoft system is deemed to perform faster at 6.0 teraflops. This will have a massive difference in computing power, since the PS4 Neo is said to only have 4.2 teraflops performance.

Graphics-wise, both claim to feature 4K gaming and support for VR content. The PS4 Neo is already confirmed to have these features, as it will reportedly be launched as a compatible product for the PlayStation VR. Since Microsoft has not yet come out with its own VR system, the Xbox Scorpio is expected to support third-party VR accessories like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Given that the two headsets have above-normal tech requirements, it can be expected that the Xbox Scorpio will have powerful GPU setup.
