PS4 Neo release date news: New console to arrive in September?

While Sony already announced the new PS4 Neo at the E3 2016, the upcoming console has yet to have a specific release date. Speculations suggest that Sony plans to debut the updated PS4 in September.

According to The Irish Examiner, rumors point to a September release date for the PlayStation 4 Neo. The industry follower says that although there is no confirmation yet, a September release period is more than possible for the new console. There is already a scheduled gaming event during that time, the Tokyo Game Show 2016. Given that it will be in Sony's backyard, it is more than likely that the Japan-based tech giant has already planned out this roadmap for the new release.

Meanwhile, aside from the PS4 Neo, there are speculations that Sony is also preparing a new console version, the PS4 Slim. Some analysts believe that this came out because of the new Xbox One Slim announcement by Microsoft, as Sony is hoping to go head to head with one of its fiercest competitors in the console market.

Should this be proven true, it will not be the first time that Sony releases a slim version of its platform. The previous-gen PS3 also has a Slim version, released in 2009.

There may also be a more powerful version of the PS4 in the works, though Sony failed to comment. However, coming out with a heavily upgraded PS4 is possible, as Sony admits to being blindsided by Microsoft's announcement of Project Scorpio. While it is true that rumors of an upgraded Xbox One had already started prior to the E3 2016, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida admits being surprised when Microsoft officially revealed Project Scorpio.

Yoshida said, "I was not expecting them to talk about [Project Scorpio], so it's very very super interesting what they are doing."
