Observers are hoping that Sony will provide more details on the much-rumored PS4 upgrade at the upcoming E3 2016, and speculations suggest that the refreshed PS4 will arrive as early as November this year.

According to VR World, the upgraded PS4 console may hit the shelves before the holidays. As for its announcement, the industry follower said that it is expected of the PS4.5 aka Neo to be formally revealed in September, at the Tokyo Game Show 2016. While remaining unconfirmed, this timetable is certainly plausible, given that it is around this period that Sony confirmed the launch of the PlayStation VR.

Being a VR-related system, the PS4.5 console may also make its appearance toward the end of the year. While the current PS4 system can certainly play VR content, the upgraded system in the PS4 Neo is well-suited for virtual reality gaming. The PS4 Neo is said to feature enriched 4K content. In addition, it is said that the PS4 Neo is powerful enough to load optimized VR content, as it switches to AMD chips. Alphr reports that with the new chipset, the PS4 Neo will clock at 2.1 GHz, at least 1.3 times higher than the recent 1.6 GHz processors on the current PS4 console.

However, the industry follower also believes that even if the PS4.5 console appears before the holidays this year, it will just be for an official reveal of the device, and that the Neo upgrade will not be available until after New Year.

The welcome news to players is that even if the PS4.5 console will have upgraded internals, Sony doesn't plan on the refreshed console to have its own game versions. This means that there are no special editions for the console and upcoming games will work on both the current-gen PS4 and its upgraded version.
