'Project X' one ups 'PUBG' with 1,000-player Battle Royale mode

Last year, nobody really expected to see a battle royale-style game with 100 players in it. Now that it is a real thing, another gaming company is aiming higher pushing the limits to 1000 players. Note that it is not just adding the player count but a lot of other realistic elements will be placed in this tentatively-titled game "Project X."

The gameplay for "Project X," although not much evidence can be given, is simply putting the real hunting world into the gaming world. Players will be able to track other players via footsteps, how the animals react, smoke from a fire, and many other real-life elements as if players were actually hunters.

The reason for developer Automaton, which is described to be an "innovation-focused" developer, to stand by with these claims is that it believes that games such as "PUBG" and "Fortnite" were built the wrong way, per Polygon. Thus, they say, it tends to be buggy, which is the reason for the delay in bug fixes in such games.

They build a huge game map, bigger than "Skyrim," and place into a cloud server. There, they pair it with Crytek's CryEngine for its real-time rendering. While the full explanation on their website may be fully understood by the more tech-savvy gamers, in layman's terms, they are making the game with engines and servers doing only what they are best in doing.

This helps in exponentially speeding up the game while implementing realistic features. "We're trying to create this foundation that will lead on to empowering the player in many, many different way," says developer Lawrence Barnett of Automaton. "It's a little bit like an RTS, where players actually end up using the map not just as a map. It means far more than that."

There is no release date for the game but they do have betas scheduled. The first one would be featuring the usual 100-player mode. Next would have 400 players in a squad-based mode. By 2019, they would finally try out the 1,000-player mode. There is also going to be a 400-player version that will be released during the PC Gamer Weekender in London by Feb. 17. 2018.
