'Project Runway' season 14 spoilers: Designers create day to night looks inspired by exotic locations in episode 3

Designers will create pieces inspired by exotic locations in the upcoming episode of Lifetime's reality series "Project Runway" season 14.

In "Shut Up and Sew," TV Guide reports that the contestants will have to create a versatile look that can go from day to night. Their work will be inspired by different global travel destinations and colorful locales. Joining Zac Posen, Nina Garcia, and Heidi Klum to judge the week's challenge is actress and model Tracee Ellis Ross.

Last episode, the designers were given an unconventional task. Within 24 hours, they had to create a design using cards from the Hallmark Signature line. While the rest decided to help each other out by swapping cards and other materials, Edmond Newton stayed off the radar and worked quietly in his corner. Swapnil Shinde took offense of a comment that he made, prompting a cold war to erupt between them.

Tim Gunn was mightily impressed with the outputs, and they all proceeded to the runway for the show. Afterwards, the verdict was announced. Newton, Blake Patterson and David Giampiccolo were in the top and bottom for the challenge, as well as Shinde, Kelly Dempsey, and Amanda Perna.

Newton's wedding dress drew great reviews from the judges. They commended him for not using conventional materials and his smart choice of style. As Hallmark was all about "special moments," his output was spot on. Newton was easily the runaway winner, and he was sent to safety.

The judges also felt good about Shinde's work, with guest celebrity judge Ashley Tisdale declaring it as her favorite look for the night. They also liked Patterson's dress, with its simplistic design and sparkly party look.

The other designers got mixed reviews. Klum thought Dempsey's dress was a bit too much, while Perna's skirt was silly-looking. The top, however, was nicely done. As for Giampiccolo, the judges were divided with their opinion.

Posen and Klum loved his work, but Nina and Ashley said the top looked like an army jacket, which was not their favorite design. The fact that he did not use any of the cards also did not bode well with the judges. In the end, Giampiccolo was eliminated.

"Project Runway" season 14 episode 3 airs Thursday at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
