Niantic, the developer and publisher of "Pokémon GO," announced that the game will no longer be supporting Apple products that are incapable of upgrading to iOS 11 starting Feb. 28.
According to the "Pokémon GO" team on Jan. 9, players were warned that an upcoming update for the game will end support for Apple devices incapable of upgrading to iOS 11 — iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPad (3rd and 4th generation), iPad mini (1st generation) and iPad 2. This is because of the improvement made in the upcoming update in which operating systems lower than iOS 11 will not be able to process.
After Feb. 28, players using affected devices will not be able to access their "Pokémon GO" accounts from the affected device or use their PokéCoins or other items in their Bags. Players will need to switch to a supported device to continue playing the game. For players with Apple devices not listed above, they will be able to access "Pokémon GO" without interruption.
Meanwhile, players of affected devices can still join the upcoming Community Day on Feb. 24. The event will happen from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. UK or GMT, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CET for Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. For North America, South America and Greenland, it will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. PST, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST. As for the Asia Pacific, it will be from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. JST.
The featured Pokémon for the upcoming event is Dratini. Players are advised to play in an area that is windy as well as to store and keep seven incense active throughout the event to boost Dratini catches. The exclusive move will be Draco Meteor. To be able to execute the move, players must first evolve a Dragonite during the event.
