PlayStation Plus September 2016 free games predictions: triple-A titles to feature after August list gaffe?

With fans reportedly being disappointed with the August lineup for PS Plus free games, Sony will more likely make amends and come out with a mix of triple-A and major franchise classics for the September list.

While Sony PlayStation has yet to come out with the September games list, speculations have already circulated online that one particular title that PS Plus members will get for free next month is "Watch Dogs." Reportedly, this will be in preparation for "Watch Dogs 2," which is slated to release in October.

However, not all industry observers are keen on the idea. According to PlayStation Universe, publisher Ubisoft still considers the original "Watch Dogs" as a big IP for the studio. Although the game can already be considered a classic – being released two years ago – the game is still listed as a major, current title. This may be the case until "Watch Dogs 2" is finally released.

The industry follower adds that instead of "Watch Dogs," Sony PlayStation is more likely to continue coming out with free games for the PS Plus program as a mix of indie titles and classic games. Triple-A predictions include "Dead Island" and 'XCOM: Enemy Within" for the PS3, and – to prepare for its fifth installment – "Persona 4."

Rumors of major titles for the September list started as the August list suffered a setback. Aside from only coming out with games from indie developers, Sony has also erroneously listed "Retro/Grade," a game which was already included in the free games list in 2012.

Meanwhile, although the September list has yet to come out, Sony PlayStation has confirmed that there will be a price hike for the PS Plus membership, at least with the US and Canada regions. Starting Sept. 22, the annual membership will have a $59.99 USD/ $69.99 CAD, while a three-month subscription will have a price tag of $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD.
