'Persona 5' release date news: Game finally gets release date; new trailer launches

Persona 5 - Collector's Edition Atlus

Originally, the next installment in the original "Megami Tensei: Persona" franchise was to launch before 2015 ended. However, developer Atlus decided to postpone the release. The game now has a late 2016 release date, as "Persona 5" is confirmed to launch on Sept. 15.

In a live-streamed presentation, Atlus revealed that "Persona 5" is set to arrive on Sept. 15 in Japan. The new game installment will be released for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4. However, Atlus has yet to announce if the release date is for the region only, or if it will also be for the global rollout of the new role-playing title.

The release date announcement also came with a new game trailer showing the main protagonists in action. The video footage also showcases some of the gameplay highlights for "Persona 5." It is also believed that the new footage is just one of the upcoming new trailers for the game, as "Persona 5" is said to also appear at this year's E3 event.

Meanwhile, although Atlus has already confirmed the September 15 release date, fans and observers are still wary that the rollout schedule may change. "Persona 5" has been in the pipeline for a long time, first announced way back in 2013. The new franchise installment originally has a release scheduled for winter 2014, but Atlus canceled the supposed rollout for at least two more times last year.

As the latest installment celebrates the 20th year anniversary of the franchise, industry observer Famitsu reports that there will be a Famitsu DX Pack for both the regular and Anniversary Editions of the game. The pack will contain Niitengo (Toy'sworks Collection) "Persona 5" Protagonist and Morgana figures made from PCV and ABS. In addition, there are also four "Persona 5" visual clear posters included.

"Persona 5" follows the same gameplay as the other iterations, although with subtle differences. This time, the main protagonists are a group of high school students who can summon their Persona at will.
