'Overwatch' news: Pro e-sports player gets suspended from tournament after homophobic insult

The organizers of an "Overwatch" league are staying watchful of the toxicity levels of their community, as a pro esports player for the first-person shooter (FPS) has been suspended after a homophobic remark towards a fellow gay player.

Dallas Fuel player Félix "xQc" Lengyel has been suspended and fined after shouting, "Shut your f*cking mouth. Go back there. Suck a fat c*ck. I mean, you would like it." He said this to Austin "Muma" Wilmot who is a rival player from the Houston Outlaws. This was after Lengyel's team suffered a losing streak to the Outlaws due to Wilmot's performance.

Wilmot, an openly gay pro gamer, shrugged off the remark and simply referred to Lengyel as a "homophobic piece of garbage." He added, "I'll just keep winning." That said, it seems that Wilmot was not surprised that someone like Lengyel since toxicity in the form of homophobia, misogyny, racism and naked rage were common in "Overwatch," as well as other competitive games and had probably heard a lot of it before he even became a professional.

Lengyel eventually apologized to Wilmot, though in social media only where he took to Twitter to make a public apology towards the player. He tweeted to Wilmot, "Everything is so fking trash lately. Hope I can turn this into something good, sorry @Muma."

However, this does not seem to be the first time Lengyel came under fire for being toxic in "Overwatch." Back in November last year, his "Overwatch" account has been suspended for three days for abuse due to an outburst in the middle of a streaming session. A few weeks later after the suspension, Lengyel was back at it again with another toxic activity, this time trying to cause his team to lose by playing as a stationary turret in-game.

Wilmot, on the other hand, has accepted the apology and also apologized back to Lengyel, even praising his team, fully expecting him to return in full force for the playoffs. Right now, though, Dallas Fuel has announced that Lengyel will be facing disciplinary actions and will not be back in any tournament soon. Lengyel has been suspended for a total of four matches and will be fined $2,000, while his team will continue coaching him and helping him become a better player.
