For fans of the show "Outlander," the upcoming fourth season has further fueled the trending topic #Droughtlander on Twitter by posting a teaser video courtesy of Starz. As shown in the short clip, time-travelling couple Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Catriona Balfe) will be exploring a "new land" in America and embarking on a "new journey" together.
The series' fourth season is based on a book from Diana Gabaldon's saga series entitled "Drums of Autumn." The author published content on her personal website that may give spoiler-hungry fans some insight as to what is to come in the upcoming season that will be released in the latter part of the year. One such revelation from the site is that it "opens with a hanging. One of Jamie's old companions from his days in Ardsmuir prison is being hanged for theft, and Jamie has come to lend what support he can."
According to the book, Jamie and Claire will be joined by his nephew Ian as they go forth toward a new chapter in their lives in North Carolina after spending much time in Scotland. They find some land in the mountains where they can start settling in, but the newfound life is somewhat "bittersweet," as Claire is hounded by the fact that she has left their daughter Brianna Randall (Sophie Skelton) behind, and that Jamie will never see her due to the fact that she was born in an era wherein he does not exist.
In an interview with Elle, Balfe says that the move to America will surely be an interesting one. She says, "I think what Scotland meant to Jamie and Claire was such an integral part of the storyline, and so it's really interesting to see these people as immigrants, and how they meet their native American neighbors and the relationships they forge with them."
As to whether the fourth series of "Outlander" will focus on a Brianna's discovery of a historical record regarding a fatal fire that involves her parents, that is yet to be seen as the showrunners are still leaving plenty to the imagination.
In addition to the set changes, a new villain will also be introduced. Pirate and smuggler Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers) will play the all-around antagonist in the lives of Jamie and Claire.
Starz has yet to confirm a definite release date. In the meantime, fans just have to sit patiently through #Droughtlander.
