"Outlander" season 2 is set to release next year, and as it is getting closer to the March season premiere, fans can't help but get excited for news about the upcoming series continuation. Meanwhile, the upcoming season is said to be fashioned after the first one, getting as close to the book form as possible.

According to Realty Today, Scotland Now quoted author Diana Gabaldon as saying that the creative team behind the second season has done a great job of staying as close as possible to how events are depicted in the book. The second season of "Outlander" is based on Gabaldon's second novel, "Dragonfly in Amber."

Gabaldon also praised how the producers and writers of the TV adaptation have chosen to stay as close to the book form as possible, even at the start of the series. Although the original book where the "Outlander" TV series was taken from contains graphic and gory images, the creative team presented it to fans in such a way that it would meet TV standards but still remain an integral part of the story.

In an interview with Radio Times, Gabaldon used the pivotal rape scene involving Black Jack and Jamie in season 1 as an example. "It occurs as a very integral part of the plot," Gabaldon said. "They filmed those scenes pretty much straight out of the book – the scenes in the prison and so forth – and in the book it builds, this conflict which is actually a triangle you might say amongst Claire, Jamie and Black Jack Randall and you see it developing, the dimensions and aspects, through the entire story."

"Outlander" season 2 is expected to arrive sometime in March next year on Starz. Meanwhile, the premiere season is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
