Previously, it is said that OnePlus will shift from the OnePlus 3 to its step-up iteration and that an upgrade to LCD screens is possible. However, the China-based tech maker has debunked the rumor.

Responding to the rumors, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei tweeted that "OnePlus will be staying with Optic AMOLED displays for the foreseeable future." The speculations started with reports of a step-up iteration, reportedly dubbed as either the OnePlus 3 Plus or the OnePlus 3s, will make a production run. However, instead of becoming an addition to the lineup, the upcoming device is said to supplant the original OnePlus 3, owing to supply concerns with the display parts. This also prompted rumors that, with the upcoming device release, OnePlus will switch from AMOLED to LCD displays to cope with the release bottleneck.

Additionally, aside from saying that OnePlus will stick with AMOLED screens for its displays, the tech maker has also debunked the rumors that it will stop producing the OnePlus 3. The company has stated to Android Authority that production run is in progress, and the company is "still producing and selling the OnePlus 3".

Meanwhile, although OnePlus did not directly deny an upcoming step-up iteration, the production of OnePlus 3 Plus or OnePlus 3s is highly possible. The release timeline of the current-generation iteration has reached the upgrade cycle for some of its specs.

Should the step-up iteration come out, it is likely that OnePlus will upgrade its processor to the new, step-up Snapdragon 821 chipset (from the SD 820 one on the original OnePlus 3). In addition, although the design and features are likely to stay the same, a "Plus" tag for a step-up release might also indicate a jump in display dimensions, making the next OnePlus 3 a full-sized phablet. An increase in size will also likely result in an increase in its battery capacity.
