Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, 1070 release date, price: High demand overtakes supply; GTX 1060 to come out soon?

High demand has reportedly overtaken the available quantities for the newly released Nvidia GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 GPUs as supply issues apparently continue. Meanwhile, supposed leaks point to a new lineup addition, the more modest GTX 1060.

Yibada reports that to date, there are some concerns about the supposed shortage of available cards for the new GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 lineups. Apparently though, the backlog is not in the logistics chain itself but rather in the manufacturer. It has been revealed that the supply woes have been traced back to chipset foundry TSMC, which is responsible for producing the chips. It seems that the manufacturer is having assembly problems with the 16nm FinFET chips that power the Pascal GPUs in the new GTX lineups, which leads to the manufacturer releasing lower inventories than expected. According to the industry follower, speculations even say that as few as 10 units are only being allocated to retailer stores. In addition, while established dealers like Amazon and Newegg seem to list more stocks, a check on their websites lists the new GPUs as currently out of stock.

Meanwhile, despite the shortage, it is said that Nvidia will be expanding the lineup with another GTX Pascal offering. Reportedly, leaked images and details pertain to the GTX 1060, which is expected to be lower version in the lineup. According to observers, Nvidia targets to release the new iteration on the market staring July 12, and it will be priced at around $250 for its base model.

While Nvidia has yet to confirm it, this estimated price range places the upcoming GTX 1060 in direct competition with AMD's newly released RX 480, which may be what the tech conglomerate is planning all along. First impressions of AMD's first-ever Polaris 10 GPU are already circulating online, with fans praising the RX 480's budget-friendly price range while offering above-average features like VR support.
