Finally, the rumors are put to rest as the upcoming procedural space exploration game "No Man's Sky" gets a release date.
Developer Hello Games confirmed this bit of news to fans themselves. In an announcement on the official U.S. PlayStation Blog, the studio's managing director Sean Murray revealed that "No Man's Sky" will be launching on June 21.
This is the first confirmed news since the reported delay of the game; originally, it was rumored to release back in December. Murray himself is aware of this and mentioned that the studio's silence let them concentrate on their work in order to fine-tune the game.
Murray wrote, "We've been a little quiet since we showed the game last year at E3, and it's because we've been heads down and hard at work on development. It's been a hectic but really exciting time for the team. Finishing a game is incredibly hard but lovely to watch as the pieces fall into place."
The announcement also touched on rumors that a game as massive as "No Man's Sky" will in no way launch as a full game. Previous speculations said that the upcoming title may release piecemeal, much like how some triple-A titles will launch in the future, like the "Hitman" reboot and "Final Fantasy VII Remake."
However, Murray was quick to shoot down these rumors, adding that the full version will not just come as a regular digital or physical copy, but a graphics-focused Blu-Ray retail version. The managing director also said that while the release in June will be a full launch of the game, Hello Games is not yet finished with "No Man's Sky."
Murray added, "Most importantly, it gives us the best chance possible to keep supporting the game for free after it is released. 'No Man's Sky' will launch as a complete game in June, but there's a lot we'd like to add post-launch, if we can."
