Nintendo is going to launch Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in time for Christmas this year.

Earlier this week, a spokesman confirmed to Eurogamer that Nintendo is discontinuing the shipment of Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) microconsole in the United States, Europe, and Japan.

In a statement, the spokesperson said, "We can confirm that we are no longer manufacturing the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System." "If production resumes in the future, an update will be posted on the official Nintendo website," the source added.

The microconsole was launched last December and instantly became a hit. Pre-loaded with 30 games, NES became an excellent Christmas gift. However, when the stocks ran low, Nintendo was unable to replenish such to keep up with the demand.

Even though this is sad news for fans, Nintendo has a good reason to pull the plug. According to a separate report from Eurogamer, a source close to the company confirmed that it will replace NES mini with SNES mini, set to be available for Christmas this year. According to the source, the development of the device is currently underway.

The launch of SNES mini may become an even bigger hit, especially since it has better software and more line up of classic games. For instance, popular titles such as "Super Metroid," "Super Mario Kart," and "Super Mario World" are playable on SNES. It also has some role-playing games such as "Secret of Mana" and "Chrono Trigger."

The good thing is, Nintendo can learn from their experience last year. They can have a better plan in terms of having more supply and inventory for SNES mini this year in order to avoid undersupply. Also, the company can look into options of pre-ordering so that they can properly anticipate the quantity that they need to produce for the upcoming mini console.
