'Narcos' season 2 spoilers: story beyond Pablo Escobar's death

Netflix has yet to announce the release date for "Narcos" season 2. Narcos

"Narcos" season 1 closely followed the life of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, played by Wagner Moura. However, the season ended at a point that limits how much of Escobar may appear in season 2. Speaking to /Film, producer Eric Newman revealed that this restriction won't mean the end of the series.

As a matter of fact, Newman states that season 2 may indeed feature the death of Escobar. The real Pablo Escobar died in 1993 when the authorities cornered him in a small town. Escobar ended up shooting himself to avoid getting caught.

Season 1 of the series ended in 1992, meaning the second season only has a year of Pablo's life to tell. This may go very quickly given that season 1 covered 15 years of Escobar's life. However, the drug trade did not end with the death of Pablo Escobar and it is this fact that Newman addressed in regards to how the show will move forward.

Newman explained that the show was always designed to have an end and that there was no way to change what historically happened. Newman also confirmed that Escobar will die before season 2 ends.

"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show. He will die," Newman stated. "There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him."

At the moment, however, Newman did not explain where the series could go after they've eventually finished the story of Pablo Escobar. Despite this, Newman did mention interest in exploring how Americans trained soldiers in Guatemala and how those eventually found their way to Mexico, leading to the violent drug trade in Mexico.

"Narcos" season 2 is currently in production although no release date has yet been announced.
