Lenovo has already confirmed that it will be continuing the Moto X lineup. Supposed leaks of the 2016 edition have already made their way online, prompting rumors that the Moto X 2016 will be unveiled soon.

According to speculations, since the annual IFA is considered one of the biggest industry events, Lenovo may choose to unveil the new Moto X at the 2016 event in Berlin. This means that the new Moto X is likely to appear later this week. The 2016 IFA is scheduled from Sept. 2 to 7.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if the Moto X will retain its flagship status, given that Lenovo already came out with another top-tier lineup, the new Moto Z series. While confirming that the Moto X lineup is still alive, Motorola has yet to come out with confirmed specs for the new iteration. There are industry followers that say that the Moto X may still be a flagship series, since Motorola has previously declared that "Moto X and Moto Z do share some great qualities, but they ultimately provide different experiences and make our portfolio more robust for consumers looking for the perfect smartphone to fit their needs."

In addition, most tech makers have two, concurrent flagship lineups, like Samsung with their Galaxy S- and Galaxy Note, and Huawei with the Ascend P- and Mate series.

Meanwhile, it is previously reported that the new Moto X may be relegated to a mid-ranger device, as supposed leaked specs surfaced online. However, new reports suggest that the new 5.5-inch Moto in question is actually a new Lenovo lineup, and will be branded as the Moto M.

As for its IFA 2016 appearance, the new Moto X may be launched together with another flagship addition, the Moto Z Play. It is also said that Lenovo will come out with other Moto-themed lineups like the new Moto 360 and MotoMods add-ons.
