Moto X 2016 release date rumors: mid-June release as Moto Z Play and Moto Z Style?

Speculations suggest that Lenovo will be outing its first Moto flagships next month. It is also said that the company will be scrapping the Moto X brand and will launch the new flagships as the Moto Z Style and Moto Z Play.

According to Venture Beat, Lenovo will not only change the branding of its Moto flagships but will also use the same brand in its other flagships. This means that the Moto Z branding will also be carried over to other iterations like the Verizon-exclusive Droid phones. Instead of follow-ups to the Droid Turbo 2 or the Droid Maxx 2, Lenovo will be launching Moto Z Droid Editions.

Meanwhile, the industry follower added that it is confirmed Lenovo will be making the Moto Z lineups with a modular design, like the LG G5. However, the add-ons will be connected at the back, with the accessories modeled to be modular backplates. The add-ons will be known as MotoMods, and not as Amps as previously believed.

KnowYourMobile suggests that while Lenovo has yet to confirm the details, a deviation from the Moto brand is certainly plausible, as the company is expected to fashion its own Moto by Lenovo brand without altogether erasing the popular Moto brand. Meanwhile, although the branding may have changed, the internals and the design keep up with what is expected of a Motorola flagship. The new Moto X 2016 is said to feature Snapdragon 820 processors paired with either 3GB or 4GB RAM and at least 32GB of onboard storage.

Since the Moto X 2016 is said to feature a base flagship model and a more modest version, the lower-specced model is rumored to feature the Snapdragon 625 chipset and may come in two iterations –  2GB RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB storage.

The new flagships are said to appear at the Lenovo Tech World show in California next month.
