It has already been confirmed that Lenovo will be outing its first-ever flagships under the Moto brand. Speculations suggest that the upcoming Moto Z handsets will have replaceable back covers, aside from the already-confirmed modular design.

According to IBTimes, a new leak has sprouted online on the upcoming Moto flagship from Lenovo. Reportedly, the new Moto X/Moto Z variants will have replaceable back covers, and these back frames will also come in a variety of designs and colors. Moreover, the replacement covers will also have the same outer pin configuration as the original back plates for the new 2016 Moto X, so users can still extend the flagship's features via the MotoMod add-ons.

It is unclear, however, if Lenovo plans for users to have access to some specs of the Moto Z like the batteries, so users can replace or upgrade the batteries themselves. Previous rumors say that the upcoming 2016 Moto X flagships will sport a "unibody, all-metal frame." Nonetheless, even if the back plate only serves as an outer layer for the Moto Z, users can still add or extend the device's features by using the MotoMods. The MotoMods are the modular accessories for the Moto Z, and can add new features like camera grips and stereo speakers, or extend feature variations like an additional battery for longer use or a MotoMod for wireless charging.

The MotoMod add-on feature is already confirmed for the new 2016 Moto X. However, Lenovo has yet to come out with the official specs sheet for the new flagships. Nonetheless, it is said that the new iterations will come out as the Moto Z with at least two variants. Other purported specs of the new Moto Z lineup include a QHD AMOLED display, and top-tier Snapdragon 820 processor with at least 3GB of RAM.
