MLB Chicago Cubs trade rumors 2017: Cubs may look to trade Javier Baez, Ben Zobrist, or Ian Happ

While still in offseason, the Chicago Cubs may be looking to receive a lot of potential trade offers for their second-base players.

The Cubs have three talented players that can be on second base: Javier Baez, Ben Zobrist, and Ian Happ. While they all bring something to the table, Cubs would not be able to utilize all of them during game time, so it means the team has to think about letting at least one of them go. Right now, rumors are saying that three different groups need the skills of the abovementioned players.

Zobrist is one of the more likely ones to be traded given his age and the inevitable decline in his performance. However, one possible team still benefits from his prowess, and that would be the Milwaukee Brewers. It may seem ironic since the two are rival teams, but the Cubs could give this trade a chance. They could get younger players in Trey Supak and Wuilder Rodriguez, who they could look to develop.

If that seems too unlikely, then the trade could be handing over Baez to the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels would highly benefit from Baez, especially given the disastrous performances of their second base, as per Holo Hangout. They may have to give up someone significant, however, since Baez is coming off his best season yet. Since Cubs are looking to improve their staff, the Angels have a few who they could trade for Baez including Matt Shoemaker or J.C. Ramirez.

Lastly, if not the two, then Happ may have to say goodbye to the Cubs and hello to the Baltimore Orioles. According to Cubbies Crib, the Cubs have already talked to the Orioles about a Happ-Zach Britton trade. Giving up Happ for Britton, and likely another starter-worthy player like Kevin Gausman, will benefit both teams the most.

As of now, a lot of things can still happen. The Cubs may just decide to keep all three of them in the end.
