"Queen of Pop" Madonna performed at the 56<sup>th Annual Grammy Awards tonight. The 55-year-old performed with hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, and Queen Latifah with a rendition of their song "Same Love" from the STAPLES center in Los Angeles.

Madonna only confirmed that she would perform at the 2014 Grammys in a press release just days before the ceremony - The singer was added as a surprise performer. Also added to the performance lineup was Billie Joe Armstrong.

Madonna's performance was among the most anticipated, according to a poll by Billboard, which polled tens of thousands of people. Viewers were most excited for Jay Z and Beyonce's collab performance, followed by Madonna's. This year's Grammy awards was hosted by LL Cool J, who returned for his third consecutive year as a host.

Madonna last performed at the Grammy awards back in 2006 when she sang alongside Gorillaz to her hit song "Hung Up."

Madonna is the best-selling female recording artist of all time, having sold over 300 million records worldwide. In 2008, she was ranked the most successful solo artist in the history of the Billboard charts.

Madonna has won seven Grammy awards throughout her successful musical career, including 28 nominations. She won Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Dance Recording, and Best Short Form Music Video for "Ray of Light" in 1999. She won two Best Long Form Music Video awards in 1992 (Blond Ambition Wolrd Tour Live" and 2008 "The Confessions Tour." Other wins include Best Song Written for a Motion Picture for "Beautiful Strange" in 2000 and Best Electronic/Dance Album for "Confessions on a Dance Floor" in 2007.
