'Mad Max' gameplay trailer underlines game's story; release in Sept.

 Avalanche Studios

With the recent release of the film reboot "Mad Max: Fury Road," fans are now eagerly waiting for the game version of the title.

The "Savage Road" gameplay trailer recently released by developer Avalanche Studios underlines key elements of the upcoming destruction derby-style, third-person role-playing game, including its Sept. 1 release. Although fans are already familiar with the post-apocalyptic wasteland made famous in the previous "Mad Max" movies, the upcoming game will have its own story and original characters.

Senior Producer John Fuller of Avalanche Studios said in a post on PlayStation.Blog, "However, while you may recognize certain elements, it is truly a standalone game with original characters, storyline and setting crafted from the ground up to rival the best games out there."

The trailer also touches on the general details of the game, starting with Max trying to fight a group of foot soldiers for the Wasteland Warlord and Gastown boss Scabrous Scrotus. Subdued due to their numbers, Max is stripped of his beloved Interceptor and is left to die out in the barren wastelands.

Max then receives help from an unlikely source, a Blackfinger named Chumbucket. The team then proceeds to craft a new and improved vehicle for Max. The new vehicle, called Magnus Opus, is upgradeable as Max seeks out and loots for different items, and Chumbucket improves it. Part of the game's focus is Max going into the heart of Gastown, duking it out with a number of Scrotus' henchmen including his right-hand man Stank Gum, in search of one of the most prized possessions in the game — a revved up V8 engine.

"Mad Max" will come out on Sept. 1 for current-gen consoles and PC only, as the planned PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions were already scrapped early this year.
