The Longmire franchise was all set to vanish without a trace after its third season, after A&E Network decided to cancel the show. And then Netflix came to the rescue of Longmire fans, resurrecting the show and giving it quite a successful run during its fourth season.

And finally, the next season is here. The streaming guru announced on Twitter that the new season will air on the 23rd of September this year. As an added bonus, Netflix with not agonize fans by releasing one episode per week. Instead, all the episodes will be available on the big day, as Parent Herald confirms.

Naturally, this must mean that the filming for the episodes of the upcoming season has been wrapped up. Katee Sackhoff, who plays Victoria Moretti in the story, tweeted her nostalgia on the last day of filming, saying, "Last day filming season 5 today....gonna miss this." The wrap-up of the shoot was also corroborated by Lou Diamond Philips, who portrays Henry Standing Bear, when he posted a photo on Twitter, captioned "It is a beautiful (final) day at the Red Pony and continual soirée...until next season! Big thanks."

This last tweet has sparked off hope among fans, who believe that the words 'until next season' must mean there's more delight in store for them. There are conflicting speculations, though, and these rumors discount the possibility of a sixth season, as Ecumenical News reports. The reason behind this is the poor viewership that the series has mostly suffered from.

However, Netflix has neither announced the possibility of a season 6, nor hinted at the probable closure of the Longmire franchise. As for the plot news regarding the forthcoming season, there are gossips doing the rounds that the chemistry between Moretti and Longmire will spark up and reach new levels. It remains to be seen whether their love stands the test of time.
