LG G5 release, specs, features: LG coming out with a G5 SE?

Apparently, LG has applied to trademark the name "G5 SE" in South Korea, leading to rumors that the tech giant has a product ready to go head to head with Apple's iPhone SE.

According to GSM Arena, reports out of South Korea mentioned that LG applied for a trademark of the name "G5 SE." The industry follower added that LG has also already come out with a brand logo for the G5 SE.

These reports, however, did not mention clearly if LG is in the process of producing a small version of its current flagship, the G5, as what Apple has clearly done with its iPhone SE. Having "G5 SE" trademarked is also not a clear confirmation that LG will be releasing a small version of its flagship.

Phone Arena reported that the South Korea-based tech giant has been looking to trademark the "G5 SE" tag as early as February, even before Apple officially released its iPhone SE iteration.

However, even if it is a modest version or just a smaller iteration of the flagship, fans may not be surprised if LG comes out with the G5 SE. Tech manufacturers are in the habit of releasing smaller versions of their flagship lineups, and the iPhone SE is an example. Sony Mobile came out with Compact iterations of their Xperia Z series flagships, and HTC is rumored to be coming out with an HTC 10 Mini in September.

In addition, LG itself is used to coming out with smaller versions of its products. According to 9to5Google, previous LG G series iterations launched with smaller versions under the C lineup, like the LG G4c released last year. The industry follower also stated that LG may decide not to use the "SE" tag at all and instead try out other variations in branding such as a "Lite" version, or even a "G5 Mini." The company may even retain its C branding and come out with an LG G5c.
