With the iPhone 7 already released, fans are now expecting details on Apple's upcoming iPhone 8. Speculations suggest that the next iPhone will get a major overhaul, including an all-glass construction and a switch to OLED display.
According to MacWorld, noted analyst and Apple release soothsayer Ming-Chi Kuo has noted that Apple will overhaul its iPhone lineup, starting with the 2017 iPhone. Eschewing the standard upgrade naming, the Cupertino-based tech giant will reportedly ditch the iPhone 7S and will go directly to iPhone 8.
Meanwhile, as a redesigned flagship, the iPhone will supposedly introduce a number of major improvements and features. Ostensibly, Apple will bring back the all-glass construction for its flagship, the frame of which was last seen on the iPhone 4 and 4S. However, Apple will still come out with an iPhone that has an aluminum chassis, serving as the entry-level model of the lineup. The all-glass variant will then be the base model of the iPhone 8, while a top-tier "Plus" version will have stainless steel construction.
In addition to a redesigned construction, some of the features of the iPhone 8 are also expected to get an upgrade. Apparently, Apple also plans to switch from LCD to OLED technology for its display. With a new display tech, the iPhone 8 is likely to get an end-to-end display, with curved dual edges. The upper and lower bezels may also receive a razor-thin design.
While Apple has yet to come out with details about its next flagship release, leaks have surfaced that point out the iPhone 8 being in the pipeline already. Business Insider reports that some of the hardware for the next iPhone is already being assembled in third-party plants in Israel. However, it may still take some time for the iPhone 8 to come out in the market since the iPhone 7 lineup has just been released.
