iPhone 7 release date, specs, features: Apple rumored to overhaul iPhone lineup, feature curved screen, 5.8-inch AMOLED display next year

Although it is rumored that the next in Apple's smartphone lineup is set to appear this year, it seems that the iPhone 7 will have improvements only in its internals. However, the iPhone lineup will reportedly get a major overhaul come next year.

According to 9to5Mac, analyst and Apple soothsayer Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has once again made a bold prediction for the Cupertino-based company. Kuo believes that Apple will be completely revamping its iPhone lineup, including its design and internals, in 2017.

One of the features that Apple will reportedly feature in the next iPhone is an AMOLED display and curved screen. The AMOLED display will reportedly be fitted into a 5.8-inch form factor, which will replace the 5.5-inch display of the current iPhones. Next year, Apple will allegedly settle for 4.7-inch and 5.8-inch displays for its iPhone models. It has yet to be said if this will be for the iPhone 8 onwards or will start with the iPhone 7.

Aside from a 5.8-inch AMOLED display, Apple will also reportedly feature a curved screen for the next iPhone, to be integrated with a curved display. Kuo has been quoted as stating that next year's iPhone will have a "completely new form factor design."

According to CNET, Apple's move to replace its LCD display with an AMOLED one will make the Cupertino-based tech giant go head to head with rivals like Samsung, which already features the technology on its recently launched Galaxy S7 lineup. The industry follower added that OLED displays are more flexible, lighter, and more power efficient than LCDs, which could be why Apple will feature the screen tech on the next iPhones.
