iPad Pro 2016 vs. original iPad Pro: Rundown on the specs of Apple's 2 hybrid tablets

When Apple launched the 12.9-inch iPad Pro late last year, the company formally announced its entry into the professional-level, 2-in-1 device market. The Cupertino-based company has once again surprised its fans with a new, more portable version of the hybrid tablet.

Launched at the recently concluded Infinite Loop event by Apple, the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro has many of the features of its older brother, and a specs rundown shows that under the hood, the device has mostly the same internals.

Both the large and small versions of the iPad Pro carry the new A9x chipset of the company, which offers above-average speeds and performance. Although Apple is known to keep secret the RAM capacities of its devices, it is believed that the bigger iPad Pro offers at least 4GB of RAM. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro, meanwhile, is said to offer at least 3GB of RAM, but MacRumors suggests that it may closer to 2GB.

Meanwhile, Apple did not make the new iPad Pro just a smaller counterpart of its 2-in-1 lineup. According to first impressions by observers like ArsTechnica, the new True Tone feature of the new iPad Pro – partnered with its more compact display – gives the smaller tablet a definitive edge over its larger sibling in terms of display.

In addition, the upward bump of the camera setup in pixels and assembly is a plus for the smaller iPad Pro. The new 12MP iSight camera is the same setup used by the Cupertino-based company on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which makes capturing images on the 2016 iPad Pro a cinch. Its smaller profile makes it comfortable to take pictures and 4K-supported videos.

The new iPad Pro with a 9.7-inch screen will go on pre-order on March 24 and will ship out starting March 31 in select markets.
