'Injustice 2' release date news: Sequel confirmed for 2017 release

 US PlayStation Blog

Previously, rumors circulated that the highly successful "Injustice: Gods Among Us" game will have a follow-up. Now, developer NetherRealm Studios has confirmed that fans can look forward to "Injustice 2."

The developer also revealed that fans will not have to wait for long as the direct sequel is scheduled to come out next year. Writing on the US PlayStation Blog, NetherRealm Studios community specialist Tyler Lansdown stated that the upcoming "Injustice 2" game will follow the events after the first title, where Superman has been incarcerated in a Red Sun prison cell. While the studio has not yet provided details on the upcoming game, Lansdown provided a hint – the sequel may involve new characters joining the fight to free the Man of Steel, and Batman will continue to rally other heroes together against the onslaught.

In addition, Lansdown also teased that fans will look forward to "Injustice 2" since the sequel will have improved features over the original, both in gameplay and story. The community specialist said, "We're doing all of the things you'd expect from a sequel. We're adding new characters, new environments, and we're taking environment destruction and interaction to the next level."

As a tease for the upcoming movie, the post also revealed that "Injustice 2" will feature the Gear System. Reportedly, the new feature will make the game play as an RPG, with loot drops for players in every mission. These rewards players with different in-game items, "with each loot drop, you will earn character-specific gear to outfit and power up your roster – changing not only the look of each character, but your fight strategy and your personal approach to every match," Lansdown wrote.

With the announcement of the new sequel, a teaser trailer has also been released, showcasing that "Injustice 2" will once again bring a free-for-all, heroes and villain grudge match. However, NetherRealm Studios has yet to come out with a release date for the new game, only hinting that "Injustice 2" is scheduled to come out sometime next year.
