'Injustice 2' release date: NetherRealm Studios teases new trailer with new heroes in action

NetherRealm Studios has dropped a new trailer for its upcoming sequel, "Injustice 2."

Captured by Gematsu during a press live stream by the studio, the new video showcases gameplay footage from the new game. The trailer highlights the Super moves each character has, and although not as gory, the moves have cutscenes much like the Fatalities skills of another NetherRealm Studios title, "Mortal Kombat X."

The video also showcases some of the characters that will be present in the second title. Along with mainstays Superman and Batman, the game will feature Supergirl, Gorilla Grodd, and Red Lantern Atrocitus. In one of the cutscenes in the footage, Aquaman's nemesis, the Black Manta, is also shown. However, it is unclear if the character will be part of the fighter roster or if he is just part of the cut scene transition.

In an interview with Gamespot, NetherRealm Studios executive Ed Boon teased that since "Injustice 2" is a direct follow-up of a big franchise, fans can expect new heroes and villains to be added to the roster. Boon hinted that hardcore fans of the franchise will be delighted with the picks since some of the new characters are added based on fan feedback.

"[We pick] the characters teams are excited about, and we're always listening to social media on characters they want to see," Boon stated. "And also DC is involved, it's a collaboration of players and DC."

Meanwhile, IGN says that with the E3 already going on, some of the new characters who will grace "Injustice 2" have been teased in the free shirts given away at the "MKX" Pro League event. The industry follower mentioned that some of the leaked characters may include Doctor Fate, Harley Quinn, and Captain Cold.

It is expected that NetherReal Studios will drop other details of "Injustice 2" during the E3 this week. The game is scheduled for release next year for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
