A few days prior to the game's release, NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boon recently announced that the studio will soon be announcing information about the downloadable content of "Injustice 2," teasing fans, "We suspect you will like what you hear!"

He made this statement on his Twitter account. In another tweet, he created an online poll asking his followers whether they wanted to bring back the characters of "Injustice: Gods among Men" in "Injustice 2," or feature all-new in-game players. As per the votes, fans want new characters instead of bringing back the old ones from the first game.

Meanwhile, two new characters in "Injustice 2" have been confirmed, one of which fans have been demanding for in the past months since the game was first announced. Joker, Batman's nemesis, will be joining the lineup of the heroes and villains of the game. His return is a surprise, considering that he died in the first game. In the trailer, Joker is shown to use a variety of weapons, ranging from knives to explosives, to get an advantage over his opponent.

The other new character that will be featured in the game is Darkseid, the tyrannical ruler of the planet Apokolips who fought Superman and the rest of the Justice League in the comic series. He was announced to be available exclusively by pre-ordering the game.

"Injustice 2" will be released in North America on May 16. It is playable on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The mobile version of "Injustice 2," meanwhile, will be getting an earlier release, as it will be out on May 11, according to Shoryuken. The mobile game will allow players to form teams of three to collect gear and complete missions. Pre-registering will allow gamers to have Catwoman on their teams as a freebie. The mobile game will feature the same cast of characters as in "Injustice 2."
