Apple is reportedly working on a new iMac hinted by OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

Unfortunately, Apple did not announce any hardware at its annual Worldwide Developers' Conference unlike what rumors said. This, however, suggested a very busy fall for the Cupertino-based tech giant. Apart from the usual suspects (iPhone and iPad) to be released this fall, Apple seemed to include iMac in its lineup.

iMac is Apple's premium desktop, which is currently available in 21.5 inches and a 27 inches. iMac is popular both to consumers and professionals. There were Apple fans clamoring for the inclusion of Retina display in Apple's desktop computers.

Surprisingly, GottaBeMobile reported that the beta version OS X Yosemite hinted that a new iMac is on its way and will include a Retina display with an amazing resolution of 6400 x 3600 resolution which would end up as 3200 x 1800 when in Retina mode. There were also speculations that the resolution will be slightly lower at 5120 x 2880, which is double compared to the resolution of the current 27-inch iMac.

Apple already offers better support for 4K display in the latest build of OS X Mavericks. It is still unconfirmed whether the upcoming 2014 iMac will sport a 4K resolution or will bring 5120 x 2880 resolution as the rumors suggest.

If rumors proved to be true, there will be a demand for Thunderbolt 4k display or a Thunderbolt Retina display that completes a powerful and high resolution workstation. Moreover, the current models will suffer a decrease in price once the new models arrived.

Recently, the tech giant slashed $100 off the price of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina in 2013 when it released the 2014 MacBook Air. Many suspected that a price cut on the iMac is imminent. Currently the iMac sells from $1,299 to $1,999. Apple products are not cheap but if it offers high end specs and features, it will still dominate the market.
