Huawei Mate 9 release date, specs rumors: next Huawei flagship shows up in leaked renders

Although Huawei has already said that the rumored Mate 9 flagship is not part of its IFA 2016 appearance, rumors on its debut continue as alleged renders showcasing the new iteration surface.

According to GSM Arena, a China-based website published what allegedly are press renders of the upcoming Mate 9, highlighting what Huawei plans with its upcoming lineup launch. In the supposed renders, one of the showcased features is the dual-cam setup. It is already expected though, since Huawei has already used the dual-cam assembly for its current-gen flagship the P9 and the P9 Plus.

However, although the Mate 9 is already expected to wield a dual-cam setup, it is yet to be seen if it will be another Leica-engineered assembly. Huawei has put Leica lenses in the new P9 flagship, noting the main 12MP camera as one of the major features of the lineup. There are also rumors that while it may not sport Leica-branded lenses, the camera setup for the Mate 9 will get a massive boost, as it will reportedly feature a 20MP assembly.

Meanwhile, close to its purported late 2016 release, other specs details spell out major improvements for the Huawei Mate 9. The new alleged press renders seemingly confirm previous speculations about the new design and form factor of the flagship. While the images display the same fingerprint sensor at the back, the renders also note an all-metal construction in a unibody chassis.

Other purported specs for the Huawei Mate 9 include a new Kirin 960 chipset, at least 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage. The new flagship will also feature a 5.9-inch screen with 1080p resolution. Meanwhile, as a late-year release, it is expected that Huawei will put Android 7.0 Nougat on the Mate 9 right out of the box.
