HTC Android N update: HTC promises early Android 7 update for flagships

Although Google has yet to confirm when the full version of its upcoming Android Nougat 7 will be released, HTC has already revealed that it will be releasing the update to its flagship devices as soon as possible.

Reiterating their promise to fans, HTC has posted a Twitter update, reaffirming that the new Android 7 Nougat will be coming to their flagship devices like the HTC 10, One A9 and HTC One M9. According to Android Authority, while Google has yet to come out with a release date, an early update to Android 7 is possible for HTC. The company may even target an early release for its devices before the year ends. HTC is known to be fast and quick when it comes to releasing Android-related updates, be it major platform version changes or security updates for hot fixes. For the upcoming Android Nougat platform, HTC may be one of the first tech manufacturers to release the update for their lineups after Google releases the new platform on Nexus devices.

Meanwhile, although HTC singled out its current flagship lineups, it can be expected that the Android 7 Nougat will also appear in previous-gen flagships like the One M8 and others.

Normally, there is a bottleneck when it comes to major Android platform updates, since most tech manufacturers and mobile carriers only make the stock Android ROM a template, preferring to build and Android version from scratch with their own layers and bloatware installed. This takes time to roll out to all capable devices. For example, although Google is already on its finishing touches for the Android 7 Nougat, most devices art still waiting for an update over Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Reports have revealed that to date, only around 10 percent of all Android M-capable devices are running on the current platform.
