Last month, "House of Cards" released a cheeky promo featuring Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood during the GOP debates to announce the season 4 premiere date. This week, the Netflix series released its first trailer for the new season, which shows Frank as he builds his presidential campaign.
In the 25-second teaser, ominous music plays as Frank's chief of staff Doug Stamper drives a spade into the ground in what appears to be a groundbreaking ceremony. Doug hands the spade to Frank, and the two smile and pose for pictures while supporters clap and hold up "Underwood 2016" signs.
While Frank continues to grin for the cameras, Doug appears to be feeling some tension as he most likely remembers being in the same situation in the past. In season 3, Doug killed Rachel Posner and buried her body in the New Mexico desert before returning to the White House to officially serve as Frank's chief of staff.
Earlier this month, the show also released a teaser that reminds viewers that Frank is a dangerous man, especially when people dig too deep to uncover his secrets. The teaser shows a bouquet of flowers on a subway track, and the camera pans to Frank's campaign poster which has the tagline, "Putting America Back on Track."
Back in season 2, Frank pushed eager young reporter Zoe (Kate Mara) in front of a speeding train, and this killed her instantly. It can be recalled that Frank also had an affair with her in season 1.
Season 4 will see Frank in the midst of his presidential campaign while dealing with the fact that his wife Claire (Robin Wright) has just left him. Neve Campbell joins the cast in an undisclosed role as a series regular, and a young power couple will be introduced to rival Frank and Claire.
"House of Cards" returns to Netflix on Friday, March 4.
