One of the biggest events in the gaming industry, the annual Gamescom, is scheduled for this week. Speculations suggest that developer Rockstar Games will drop a major announcement at the event, possibly about "Grand Theft Auto 6."

According to the Mirror, Rockstar Games has already confirmed that it will be outing a number of major announcements soon. In a recent earnings call, the company stated that "Rockstar Games also is hard at work on some exciting future projects that will be revealed soon."

While the developer has not made any commitments on when, it is expected that the studio will announce details at the 2016 Gamescom.

An announcement from Rockstar Games is expectedly big news for the industry, as the studio holds some big-name franchises under its belt. Speculations suggest that one announcement may even entail general details on the much-anticipated sequel, "Grand Theft Auto 6." Industry observers agree that Rockstar Games may already be thinking of a follow-up, given that the current "Grand Theft Auto V" title was originally launched way back in 2013. Though the game has been constantly updated, expansion content is only rolled out to its online multiplayer feature, "GTA Online."

Though Rockstar Games has not directly confirmed that a sequel is already in the works, a number of rumors about "Grand Theft Auto 6" have already made their rounds online. According to speculations, Rockstar Games will make the upcoming sequel the biggest title in the franchise yet, featuring a massive, interconnected open world from previous "GTA" locations like Los Santos and Vice City. In addition, "GTA 6" is also said to feature its first-ever female protagonist.

Meanwhile, although fans have been waiting since 2013 for a "GTA" sequel, they may have to wait a bit longer for "Grand Theft Auto 6." Rockstar Games is said to be focusing first on a new project, possibly "Red Dead Redemption 2."
