'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: New season promises a lighter tone

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is shaping up to be one upbeat season. ABC

It looks like things will be looking up for majority of the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital come "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. From how things ended in season 12, relationships should be built, rebuilt and far stronger in the new season.

Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) will start their life as a married couple when "Grey's Anatomy" returns. Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) are learning to co-exist for their daughter.

Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben (Jason George) finally reconcile while Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) say their goodbyes on a forthcoming note. All of these are recipes for a brighter "Grey's Anatomy" season 13.

The premiere of the new season is looking to be the lightest and most upbeat the show has ever been seeing that the season 12 finale lacked the usual devastations and shockers the medical drama usually packs in its season-enders.

Of course, not everybody got their happy ending. Jo (Camilla Luddington) turned down Alex's (Justin Chambers) marriage proposal because, unbeknownst to the latter, she is still married to an abusive husband who will mess her up even more if she asked for a divorce.

Luddington told Entertainment Weekly that Jo will have to confront in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 the problem she has always been dodging.

"She now has so much to explain, not just why she's been married, or why she didn't tell him, or that it's not her real name," the actress said.

"Now she has to also explain how she got herself in a situation where it looks like cheating, and that she wasn't cheating. I wonder if it's just all too much to recover from," Luddington added.

Meanwhile, after a row with Amelia, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) will find herself in trouble with her second sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13.

This is simply because she is hooking up with the same man Maggie is smitten to— Riggs (Martin Henderson). While the two have no plans to take things serious, it is rumored that as "Grey's Anatomy" progresses, they will realize they actually want to.

This, of course, complicates the sisterhood of Meredith and Maggie. To make things worse, the latter is under the impression that Riggs is also taken with her.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 3 is expected to premiere this fall.
