'Gravity Rush 2' DLC news: Game pays homage to 'NieR: Automata' in new DLC

Kat's new costume in "Gravity Rush 2" recalls the attire of 2B in "NieR: Automata." Twitter/PlayStation

"Gravity Rush 2" is set to pay homage to "NieR: Automata" through a costume based on a character in the latter title for free.

First revealed by PlayStation on Twitter, the aforesaid costume is for Kat, and it will feature the gothic Lolita attire of 2B, the killer android of "NieR: Automata." Players also have the option to make Kat wear the distinctive dark visor of the character, or they can do without it.

The costume is released as part of the Japanese Golden Week celebrations. This downloadable content (DLC) was already launched in Japan on April 27. It will be available in North America on May 5.

2B is the lead protagonist and arguably the most popular character of "NieR: Automata." She is a battle android designed to combat the machine life forms that have invaded the planet to protect the handful of humans that have survived. Throughout the course of the game, she is shown to have begun to develop emotions, despite being merely created and not actually being alive.

Prior to the "NieR: Automata" crossover, "Gravity Rush 2" only released one DLC: "Another Story the Ark of Time – Raven's Choice." The content was released by Sony as a way of making up to players for the delay of the game's release. It features a side story about a character named Raven.

"NieR: Automata," which was recently released in Asia, is set to have a new DLC soon. According to Eurogamer, a new DLC, titled "3C3C1D119440927," will be released on May 2. It will feature new coliseum challenges and new bosses, including Square Enix President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yosuke Matsuda and Platinum Games President and CEO Kenichi Sato. Items cannot be used by players in these new coliseums. Completing these will allow them to unlock new costumes and other freebies. Unlike the "Gravity Rush 2" DLC, this will need to be purchased.
