Google Nexus 7 2016 release date news: Next iterations may feature layered Android N

 Android Developers blog

It is said that Google is still waiting for the full version of Android N to be released before coming out with a new lineup of Google Nexus devices. However, speculations suggest that even if the new platform comes native to the new flagships, the Nexus 2016 devices will not feature a pure and stock Android N at all.

According to BGR, Google apparently hinted that the Android N platform, when released for the Nexus 2016, will come as a layered version. It seems that the company will be adding its own take on the stock ROM, though Android itself is their product. In an interview with Google CEO Sundar Pichai at the Code Conference, he said that there is an idea to "thoughtfully add more features on top of Android or Nexus phones," since there is plenty of "software innovation to be had."

Pichai also disclosed that at this point, Google will still partner with known tech manufacturers for their upcoming Nexus devices instead of coming out with the hardware themselves.

Pichai added, "Our plan is still to work with OEMs to make phones."

However, the Google CO maintained that the company will supervise all aspects of development of the new Nexus products, from the design to the specs.

This led fans to ask who the next Nexus maker will be, and there are quite a number of candidates willing to take on the job. According to Charlene Munilall, general manager for Huawei's Consumer Business Group in South Africa, the company will be back for another run after the success of the Nexus 6P, and fans should expect that "we're doing the Nexus again this year."

Other purported candidates as the next Nexus maker are HTC and Asus.
