Google Nexus 6 and Nexus 10 2 could be figments of our imagination as reports claimed that Google will drop the two devices and will be replaced by the Android Silver program. The search engine giant is set to unveil the rumored HTC Nexus 8 as it will reveal more information about the alleged Android Silver line.
Google Nexus 6 is dead and the rumors about the handset surprisingly diminished since speculations about the Android Silver program surfaced online. Reliable tipster Evan Blass of @evleaks tweeted that there is no more Nexus 6.
"There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus," he tweeted last May 16.
Meanwhile, Google Nexus 10 2 was supposed to be released late last year as the first generation of the device celebrated its first birthday. The device, however, is still missing in action until now. It could be that the Nexus 10 2 was the first Nexus device that was axed by Google.
Following the frustration due to lack of confirmation from Google, the attention shifted to the rumored HTC Nexus 8, which is expected to make an appearance at the company's annual I/O Developers' Conference kicking off on June 25.
It is also speculated that Google will reveal more clues about the more premium line – Android Silver. Reports claimed that the devices in the Android Silver will be more expensive than Nexus gadgets in order to keep up with its competitors like Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy S line.
However, @evleaks also announced that the Android Silver may be launched in February next year and suggested that a Nexus 6 smartphone is still due this year. Also, Google exec Sundar Pichai told the press during the Mobile World Congress early this year that the successor of Google Nexus 5 will arrive at the second half of 2014. It is still unconfirmed whether this successor will still be under the Nexus line or Android Silver program.
