'Fortnite Battle Royale' season 2 gets Battle Pass, holiday event with loads of new items

"Fortnite: Battle Royale" season 2 is now live and it came with a winter event as part of the 1.11 update. Epic Games

The second season of "Fortnite Battle Royale" is now underway, and with it comes a brand-new battle pass that offers a slew of new cosmetic customizations, including skins, harvesting tools, emotes, and loads of other items.

Epic Games released the battle pass as part of patch 1.11 on Wednesday. It can be purchased for 950 V-bucks ($9.50) and is tiered, meaning it gives instant access to certain items but needs to be upgraded for the others.

Among the rewards players can unlock are new skins like Sparkle Specialist and Royale Knight; new gliders like Royale X, Pulse Axe and Get Down; and several new harvesting tools. There are also a number of brand-new emotes, dances, and further boosts of XP. An exclusive Black Knight Skin then awaits those who will reach the final tier 70 with the battle pass.

According to the patch notes, there are more than 65 rewards by the end of the season and it "typically" takes 75 to 150 hours of play to get everything. That is an awful lot of Fortniting, but Epic made its sure players get enough time to squeeze it all in. The pass will last through the entirety of the second season, which will run until Feb. 20, 2018.

Of course, players can always opt to purchase new levels whenever they want should they run out of time or choose to unlock something quicker. Those who do not buy the Battle Pass can still receive earn select season 2 items -- just not the full suite like the premium-tier players.

Meanwhile, "Fortnite Battle Royale" 1.11 update also brings a new "Survive the Holidays" event for the "Save the World" sandbox mode, complete with a new quest and holiday-themed heroes, weapons, and a special event store. The highlights include a festive Battle bus, a limited Snowball Grenade Launcher, and emote as rewards via the Battle Pass or Shop.

"Fortnite" is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
