'Fallout 4' DLC updates: Survival Mode to enter PC beta next week

 Bethesda

Bethesda has announced that the upcoming update for its post-apocalyptic game "Fallout 4" will include a Survival Mode, at least for the PC version.

In a recent tweet, the studio stated that the Survival Mode will enter its beta phase for the PC version next week. While Bethesda has not included a specific release date for the upcoming beta version, it is expected that the beta will go live earlier than the expected release schedule for "Wasteland Workshop," the second planned DLC for the game.

The developer has already hinted at this general schedule, according to Express. Reportedly, "Fallout 4"director Todd Howard has touched on the beta release date, saying that without any major bugs or issues, the version will roll out way before the second DLC release for the game.

Survival Mode for "Fallout 4" will provide a refreshed challenge for players. While missions will not change under the new gameplay, some features will be tweaked that will make the game more challenging. Auto and manual option-based saves will be turned off on the new mode, requiring players to regularly find beds to sleep on if they want to continue with the gameplay mode.

The new Survival Mode tweaks other game elements. Fast travel between explored locations is turned off, and there will also be a sickness system that will make players monitor their character's health and hunger regularly. In-game items such as ammunition will have real-world applications, too. This means that more in-game items will take up bag space and add weight to the player's inventory.

If players also opt for Survival Mode, the game gets more difficult as the character progresses, which makes "Fallout 4" more stimulating. This works in conjunction with new content as the first-ever "Fallout 4" DLC, "Automatron," already dropped for players this week.
