'Fallout 4' DLC update: 'Automatron' expansion gets favorable reviews

True to Bethesda's promise when "Fallout 4" was released late last year, the first of the scheduled expansion content for the franchise dropped early this year. "Automatron," the first DLC pack of three, has gone live.

With the release of the new DLC, "Fallout 4" players have already started completing the new missions, and first impressions are favorable.

According to PC Gamer, while the robot workbench is part of an in-game element, it doesn't stick to only molded parts as part of robot construction. Unlike other "customization" features in some other games, the workbench in the new expansion unlocks a spattering of parts and accessories for each construct. In addition, the robot workbench in the "Automatron" DLC lets players fully customize every detail of their robot companion – there is no requirement or partnering of parts, and players can use any robot parts from scavenged and hunted resources.

Meanwhile, Geek lauds the bond between "Automatron" and the main storyline in "Fallout 4," saying that Bethesda opted for expanding the game not only for the sole purpose of adding content. Rather, the plot in the new expansion, while a standalone, meshes with the main story.

"Automatron" tells the story of ADA, a robot companion that swore revenge against The Mechanist and his minions of killer robots. Hardcore fans are familiar with The Mechanist as he is also featured in the previous "Fallout 3" installment as one of the characters in the "The Superhuman Gambit" mission.

The "Automatron" DLC is the first expansion content that Bethesda made for "Fallout 4" this season. To complete the trio of DLC packs are "Wasteland Workshop," due to arrive next month, and "Far Harbor," scheduled to roll out in May. The studio has not yet confirmed any plans for expansions beyond the three mapped out ones.
