'Extant' season 2: CBS show renewed or cancelled?

"Extant" Season 1 is finished, but the cast, creators, crew, and fans of the show are still waiting for word from CBS if the series will be renewed for another season or not.

As of this moment, there's no announcement made if "Extant" will be back for a new season. Fans want it, the cast and crew of the show want it, but CBS looks like they don't. It's all because of the low ratings for the first season.

CBS has tried to make "Extant" work by moving its schedule several times already. Even the season finale was moved to Sept. 17, which was originally set for Sept. 24. According to Deadline, this move was made to keep "Extant away from premiere week competition." Also, it's original schedule was after "Big Brother" but CBS moved it after the "Criminal Minds" rerun.

Well, it can be observed that CBS' sci-fi TV shows haven't been successful. The most successful so far is "Under the Dome," but the network decided to pull the plug for that series, too, citing a huge drop in ratings as the reason. According to The Epoch Times, "Extant" started with 9.5 million viewers. Eventually, it dropped to 5.6 million, and then 4.6 million.

But of course, creator Mickey Fisher is hoping for a renewal. He's been very active on Twitter and talking to fans about the episodes and the season finale. In one of his replies, he said that the season finale will be big and satisfying, and he did that thinking that the show might end right then and there.

He also tweeted, "Thanks for being so cool. I've loved hanging out and watching/talking about the show with you. Here's hoping for #ExtantSeason2," expressing his big hopes for a season 2 renewal.

Just like everyone else, Fisher has been waiting for an announcement. But writer Greg Walker had something to say about season 2 before "Extant" even started. He told The Hollywood Reporter, "We love the idea of season two being the sequel to this. The threat we establish in season one ... will continue in season two."

Could Walker have had a premonition?
