E3 2016 news: Electronic Arts won't be at expo, will hold own EA Play event

One of the most awaited events in the gaming industry is the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo. This year's E3 is scheduled to take place in June. However, a big-name participant at previous E3 events, Electronic Arts, is not attending this year. Instead, EA will be breaking tradition and is cooking up its own showcase event.

Dubbed the "EA Play" event, Electronic Arts scheduled its own event for June 12 to 14 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The studio also has an event slated for June 12 in London at The Apollo. On the EA Play website, the studio announced that those who are attending live will get to "experience hands-on game demos, live events, competition, special guest appearances, exclusive memorabilia and more."

The live demos and playable titles at the LA event will be accessible to players at the following times: from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. PST on June 12, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. PST on June 13 and all day on the last day of the event, June 14.

Since EA is a global brand, the company has also announced that there will be a livestream of the event, which will start with the EA Play press conference on June 12 at 1 p.m. PST. It is also revealed that while the entrance is free, players and interested participants will have to reserve tickets in advance due to limited space.

Meanwhile, although EA has only come out with general schedules for the upcoming event, GameSpot said that the studio has already teased at least one game to be showcased at the event. EA Play will highlight "Titanfall 2" as EA hopes for the franchise to be a mainstream industry brand together with its "Battlefield" and "Battlefront" series. It is not known what other titles will be showcased at EA Play, but it can be expected that "Star Wars: Battlefront" will be there, as well as some choice demos for current "Battlefield" titles.
