After three seasons, Hulu has canceled "Difficult People." The comedy series had been on the air since 2015 and recently ended its third season last September.
The show was led by Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner, playing fictionalized versions of themselves. They were two people trying their luck in New York City, but they came across life problems and relationship issues.
Before "Difficult People" got canceled, fans saw Julie on an adventure to find real-life happiness. On the other hand, Billy started to hate New York as he began to fall in love with his first true boyfriend, Todd Ross (John Cho).
Other stars in the series were Andrea Martin, James Urbaniak, Gabourey Sidibe and Cole Escola. The entire 28 episodes for three seasons are now streaming on Hulu.
Klausner created "Difficult People" while it was executive produced by Amy Poehler. The series helped evolve the streaming service to become the home of original shows. In fact, it was the first "high-end" scripted series that premiered on the network, Deadline reported.
Other original series debuted on Hulu alongside the comedy show were the Stephen King series "11.22.63" from JJ Abrams and "Casual," which was recently renewed for a fourth season. The streaming service's "The Mindy Project" also recently ended. However, its creator, Mindy Kaling, will be handling a new anthology show based on "Four Weddings and a Funeral" also for Hulu.
If truth be told, Hulu is becoming successful this year, especially with the achievements that "The Handmaid's Tale" has received. With a $2.5 billion budget for programming, viewers should wait for its future projects like "The Looming Tower," which will star Jeff Daniels.
Also, Hulu is about to feature a pre-apocalyptic crime drama titled "Hard Sun" as well as Marvel's "Runaways." Of course, fans are now waiting for the release of "The Handmaid's Tale" season 2.
